when being in love has burned away

"When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots are become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day. It is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every part of your body. No... don't blush. I am telling you some truths. For that is just being in love; which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away. Doesn't sound very exciting, does it? But it is!"

Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

"We spend our whole life trying to stop death. Eating, inventing, loving, praying, fighting, killing. But what do we really know about death? Just that nobody comes back. Then there comes a point - a moment - in life when your mind outlives its desires, its obsessions, when your habits survive your dreams, and when your losses... Maybe death is a gift."

The Life of David Gale

“I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.

all said , the mystery love is, unravels itself the moment you find it at your disposal.... and you keep losing it, sometimes within at others beyond yourself, only to find it once again in ways you never knew existed, in things you never thought you would, in possibilities you had never dared to ploy with .....
does it ever burn out ???

Hmmm...this post proves that I've never been in love :-(

But I remember watching Captain Crelli's Mandolin...very mediocre movie!

Arunima said...

@nautilus: yes, it was very mediocre but I just found the lines saved in some folders. I must have liked these lines when I watched it. :-)

The Life of David Gale was good.

Love and death! Two very different things to talk about...

I agree with the one about love. And how about one make most of the time between that love and death

Dear Aru,

Another good one ! I might have read 10 times already. The interesting part of this blog was that you just muse over the lines and get into introspection. And you just do not get into comment mode. I just wanted to comment that.

Just saw 'Nameshake'. Don't ever miss if you are interested in life and its lanes.

- Removed not and replaced 'h' by 'm'

"V" says- Love is a subjective thing, for ahungry man food provider is the most lovable one, for one who is craving for cloths cloths provider is the most loving one, for a person who is shelterless it is the house provider who is loved one, si,ilarly if love is between equals then if you are willing to accept defeat then you are in love with that person. Love is one great thing which do not have any definition and many people have failed to define it simply because no one knows why people love? it is like many unknown things

love is what is left over ......in the tightness that yet remains when you hold the hands....in the intense look that yet exists when you least expect and in the fights that still end up..with a wet embrace....perhaps it is then you know that something is still left over and that it can still burn you deep....inside and that hurt is still your need.....
