:-? how come ? are you sure of they being hacked. Definitely must be a slip on your part - a slip somewhere leading to either leaving account open or giving out ur passwd unknowingly!!Wanna elaborate on it ?
Will miss your posts :( Oh and came across this - thought you might be interested!
break from blogging...I think ive started taking a break after every time I blog..
I seriously doubt that your accounts were hacked..probably you didnt close your accounts and some mischevious imp playeda prank on you.. All the best in catching the crook and spanking the living daylights out of it.
I saw your name at Anumita's blog, liked yourname " ARUNIMA" very much. SO I came here and read that you would be taking break FOR SOME TIME. I am disappointed. I read few posts and they are wonderful. I am going to catch up with the rest and hope you will come back by the time I finish all your posts. VENKAT
Don't lose heart on this. Don't let this incident make you feel bad about the online world. If you stay back it means you surrendered. Are you sure it is hacked? Sometimes server problems render yahoo unavailable .
It is very difficult to hack either Yahoo or gmail accounts without getting the user to run some sort of executable (things that Windows and your browser give you 18,000 warnings for). Did that happen?
Either case, so you no longer have access to your mail accounts or they've been wrecked in some other way?
Hey the other day I had a fren over at my place and she brought her fren along. We watched movies at my pad and talked about various stuff. Guess what? That fren of my fren turned out to be your roomie Siami! Small world huh? LoLz.
Hi Arunima ( and others) Yahoo and Gmail cannot be hacked so easilly bcos they use a one-way hash algorithm which can never be decrypted (they call it message digest algorithms) . There are no scripts (which can be used by script kiddies :D) which can crack the passwords of yahoo and gmail. The servers will deactivate the account if they try more than a few times from the same remote machine . So Brute force is not a solution. Sometime back there came a cracking tool for MacOS, which opens up 500 simultaneous connections (different requests that simulated 500 different computers)to the server. But it was not successful either. And no one wd spent enuff money for a chip that can perorm brute force at the yahoo database :)). So the problem there is someone who knows u well enuff. In yahoo, if somebody knows ur birthday (and can guess ur zipcode ), then he can go to the forget password link and try giving ur birthday and ur zip code, and if he gets lucky enuff he will be prompted for the secret answer to the secret question u applied when u first register. So if the answer is easy enuff to guess, then the guy( or hacker as u call him :D) will get a new password, which u will never know. Since he can log in to this yahoo mail account, what he probably did is, he went to gmail and clicked forget password link and in gmail theres an option that sends a password assistance email to the secondary email( ur yahoo id) . He can folow the instructions and reset a new password. So this is how ur 2 mail ids are hacked. So what u gonna do now is go to yahoo, click forgot password and folow he instructiosn to get a new password. try to change the security question and answer( im not sure if thats possible) , if not and u dont want the same hacker to do it again, then close tha yahoo account and open a new one with a more stronger security answer. Yes, please use a stronger security answer to keep ur accounts secure and if possible try changing ur passwords every month. And dont keep the same password for all the logins u have. Cos if somebody gets one password, he will get access to all other accounts. This password maintenance is a real pain but this is tradeoff for all the good things u get with internet services. I hope this helps in recovering ur mailbox. :)

Be more imaginative. Getting the password by breaking the encryption or brute forcing aren't the only methods.
Buffer overruns with malcode that installs a keylogger is just as effective.
Ofcourse, again, not script-kiddie domain but still very much in the realm of "possible".
